School Board Meeting Tonight at 5:30pm

HCSBoard Seal

The Huntsville City School Board will be meeting tonight (Tuesday, October 11, 2011) at 5:30pm at the Merts Center on 200 White Street, North. Here is a link to the agenda that was finally published last night.

Evidently there was a Board Meeting this morning to accept the resignation of the Grissom High School football coach. This meeting wasn’t announced.

There will be an opportunity for public comments at the end of tonight’s meeting. Recently, there have only been 1 or 2 people who choose to speak at the meetings. Hopefully there will be more in the coming weeks. If you would like to sign up to speak (and yes, you do have to sign up), you may contact Debby Jennings, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, at (256) 428-6810 or via email at djennings@hsv.k12.al.us. You may also sign up at the meeting on a sign-in sheet that is placed on the table outside the conference room. If you wait, you need to be there to sign in at least 15 minutes before the meeting begins at 5:30pm.

The agenda includes a final discussion on the Board’s Goals for the Superintendent (upon which they will base a decision concerning his bonus), “Strategic Staffing,” and a discussion concerning the “PROACT Superintendent Academy.” The board will also hear and unanimously approve (if history is any indication) the Human Resource Report. This is the board’s opportunity to discussion and approve or reject the Superintendent’s plans to hire new staff, teachers, approve leaves, and accept retirements. If the Superintendent plans to recommend a person for the Director of Community Engagement and Partnership Development position that was posted in August at a salary range of $58,791.59 to $95,175.12, it will happen during this portion of the meeting. For some reason, this position has not yet been filled.

I will be in attendance. As always, the meeting will be broadcast on ETV (Comcast 17, Knology 99), and at the Huntsville City Schools website. I will also be live-tweeting the meeting @russwinn. You can follow on Twitter or on the Geek Palaver Facebook Page.
